Tips for Brewing Coffee at Home - Bullet Points
Posted on September 07 2023,
Brewing good coffee at home is simple and requires minimal effort. Here are the basics you can do to improve your cup of coffee. I plan on going into more detail on each of these in the future.
- Use filtered water.
- Use whole bean coffee within 3 days to 3 weeks from the roast date.
- Store coffee away from heat, air, and light but not in the fridge or freezer.
- Weigh the coffee. Do not use a measuring scoop.
- Use a ratio of 1 gram of coffee to 17 grams of water.
- Grind right before brewing with a burr grinder.
- Grind size is determined by the coffee-to-water contact time. Grind size increases as time increases.
- The water temperature should be 200°F ± 5°.
- To correct weak or sour coffee, increase the amount of coffee, use a finer grind, increase the brewing temp, or increase brew time.
- To correct strong or bitter coffee, decrease the amount of coffee, use a coarser grind, decrease the brewing temp, or decrease brew time.
